WEST ALLIS, Wis. — Although the U.S. Housing Market has not recovered from the pandemic, the Metropolitan Builders Association believes its 2023 Homebuilding and Remodeling show shows there is a lot happening in the industry in the Milwaukee area.

The last report from the Wisconsin Builders Association said home construction in the state decreased by 24% between the summer of 2021 and 2022.

Dave Kallie talked to customers about a home construction project. He is the owner of Dimension Inc., a homebuilding and remodeling company in Brookfield.

“We just recently signed a new home preliminary agreement for a home in Madison so we are still seeing the opportunities, so I think this year we will still be in pretty good shape,” Kallie said.

However, this is the part of the year he takes a breather.

“Typically, it slows down a lot, but during the holidays, so I think new home construction is waning a little bit, probably more because of interest rates, the economy,” Kallie said. “Remodeling is remaining strong.”

The Metropolitan Builders Association organized this event to help consumers find trusted contractors for home construction or remodeling work.

Pam Lohnes, the event manager, said Milwaukee remains an active market for remodeling.

“Jobs are coming in. People still need to remodel. They want to remodel,” Lohnes said. “They want to do stuff different. I think since covid, obviously, things have changed a little bit and homes are more important to people and they want to customize them more to what they are interested in in their lives.”

As people continue to seek ways to better their homes this weekend, it reminded Kallie of why he likes to be here.

“We have people that come here with homes that are just dilapidated, and it’s really fun to work through a process to make their dreams come true as it relates to their home and improving people’s lives through that,” said Kallie.
