WISCONSIN — After Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field Monday during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, many have been stressing the importance of CPR and AED in saving lives.

Yet many people aren’t certified.

A study from the American Heart Association found that 65% of adults in the U.S. said they’ve received CPR certification, but only about 18% are up-to-date on training.

In Milwaukee County, bystander-CPR rates hover around 20%, according to the American Heart Association. That means someone going into cardiac arrest in the county has about a one in five chance of having someone step in to offer CPR before first responders get there.

There are several places across the state that you can get certified or learn about CPR. Here are just a handful of the top places that offer courses:

Red Cross

The American Red Cross offers CPR classes across the state. Some are online; some are in person. Others are a combination of the two. In this course, you’ll learn the latest methods for providing care during a sudden cardiac arrest in all ages. After completing the course, you’ll earn a digital certificate.
