MILWAUKEE — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers held an Inaugural Kids Gala in Milwaukee and Madison to celebrate his upcoming second term in office.

Chris Walton took his niece, Charm, to the Kids Gala at Fiserv Forum.

“We are going to get face painting in a bit,” Walton said. “She was able to put together a magnet and hopefully be able to play with some other kids and really get to celebrate the governor getting re-sworn in.”

As the former Democratic Party Chairman of Milwaukee County, Walton took great pride in seeing Evers get re-elected. While his niece got her face painted, he said he hopes the state politicians work together for the benefit of the kids.

“Hopefully the state legislature will work with him. Hopefully, they will actually let him utilize a lot of the money and actually use the money for the city of Milwaukee especially,” said Walton.

Evers said he was excited to be the first Wisconsin governor to host a Kids Gala. He believes if they focus on the youth, it will be best for the future of the state.

In order to accomplish this, Evers pledged to introduce a robust budget for public schools.

“We shouldn’t have to have school districts go into referendum. 80% of them win but 20% of them lose and when that happens, we have frankly completely distorted our system,” Evers said. “We have to provide more resources. Again, I think that’s something that we can make bipartisan in nature.”

The vision to provide more funding for public schools also ties in with Walton’s wishes for his niece in 2023.

“Hopefully, we can get some great things going in school and have a great chance to grow in the city of Milwaukee,” he said.
