MILWAUKEE — After a year where gas prices hit a new all-time record high in Wisconsin, the price at the pump has been falling as of late.
And experts are saying it should stay lower into 2023.
“We are expecting gas prices to look a little more like they did in 2021 than they did in 2022,” Nick Jarmusz with AAA Wisconsin told Spectrum News 1. “At least through the spring, we anticipate prices to fall and stay low, but then next year when we ramp back up to summer road trip season, it’s really anyone’s guess as to where we’ll be at that point.”
Looking back at this past year, the price for regular unleaded hit a record high of $4.92 per gallon in Wisconsin in June, according to AAA.
The week before Christmas, prices were averaging below $2.80 per gallon, a drop in price of nearly 45%.
“In the past month or two, we’ve seen a pretty precipitous drop to where we’re right back down to about 20 cents per gallon below where we started the year at,” Jarmusz said.
