JACKSON, Wis. — This time of year, it’s common to see lots of Christmas lights on people’s houses.
One pool company is using their off-season to make the holiday season special for veterans in the community.
Swimming Pool Services is a pool company that does holiday decorating in their off-season.
Joshua Rouse has been working for Swimming Pool Services for the past five years and in those five years he’s had the honor of decorating veterans’ homes for Christmas.
“Putting up all the displays, you can find a lot of enjoyment in it but doing it for a vet, you can find a little enjoyment in it,” Swimming Pool Services renovations manager Rouse said.
The company has been doing the decorated family services for a handful of years.
This year, two military families were chosen to receive the gift of holiday lights and veteran Jessica Michaud and her daughter got the gift of holiday cheer outside their home.
“There are people out there who really appreciate and care about your services. It’s just heartwarming. It’s something that I take a lot of pride in and I’m super appreciated that there are people who care and appreciate our service,” Michaud said.
Michaud is a single mom who served as an Army medic for over ten years. She said she wouldn’t be able to decorate like this by herself.
“This will be probably one of the only years I can do this for my daughter, so it will be super special,” Michaud said.
It was an unexpected surprise to win after being nominated by a friend. But Michaud said it’s something they say they will remember for a long time.
“It’s incredible,” Michaud said. “We will never forget this.”
The house is lit up red, white and blue to show the colors of a veteran living in the home. The company said it’s a tribute they like to do to veterans. For the Michaud family, it will truly be a holiday to remember.
