ASHWAUBENON, Wis. — Snow was falling at a moderate pace a little after 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Tom Kane of Kane Lawn Care and Snowplowing was busy plowing the parking the lot in front of a business just off Packerland Drive near Ashwaubenon.

“We started about quarter to four and we’ll probably be done by noon and then we have to do residential driveways and sidewalks after that,” he said.

He didn’t mind seeing several inches of fresh snow in the lights of his truck.

“I’m happy to see it,” he said. “There’s a couple inches down right now. All we can do is get out and clean it up.”

The snow was from a large winter storm system that dropped more than a foot of snow in some parts of the state. Snow totals were just shy of 4 inches in Green Bay and closer to 5 near Appleton.

Andy Schweitzer spent part of his morning clearing his Ashwaubenon driveway with a shovel.

Choosing the right one was part of the trick with Thursday’s wet, heavy snow.

“It’s too heavy for a plow shovel,” he said. “You have to get a shovel with a good handle on it and do some lifting, a little at a time.”

Especially after the plow comes through.

“The wet, heavy stuff, you’re fighting with the snowblower,” Schweitzer said. “Sometimes it’s easier to just get a shovel out and just lift it a little bit.”

November and December have been brown in the Green Bay area until Thursday morning.

More snow is possible across the state Friday and Saturday.

“It’s kind of late this year to get out,” Kane said. “But we go out and get ‘er done.”
