EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Several Wisconsin cities are considered some of the top places in the country for college students to live on a limited budget, according to a new national ranking.
BrokeScholar.com analyzed more than 1,000 cities throughout the U.S., considering high populations of single people in their 20s, walkability, low rent and cost of living, social opportunities, low unemployment and overall affordability.
According to the ranking, Wisconsin is the most overall budget-friendly state for college students on a budget, with Madison, Eau Claire, La Crosse and Oshkosh making the top 25 list. Oshkosh was ranked 24, Eau Claire 20, Madison 17 and La Crosse 11.
“Our students quickly realize that Eau Claire is a beautiful and affordable community to live in during their college years,” Interim Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management at UW-Eau Claire Billy Felz said. “Blugolds take advantage of the many free opportunities they find here, including parks on and near campus, and miles of recreational trails for hiking and biking.”
Michigan and Illinois followed Wisconsin, both having three of the top 25.
