MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission is caring for over 100 animals found in a home on Milwaukee’s north side.

The animals were living in what MADACC describes as filth. They called the incident a hoarding situation.

Karen Sparapani, executive director of MADACC, said she has never seen a situation like this with such a broad array of animals.

“It was like Noah’s Ark — except I think Noah probably did a better job housing these animals, but there was every kind of animal you could think of, from farm animals to reptiles to birds,” she said.

On top of that, there were dozens of dogs and cats trapped in the basement. Some animals were found dead from disease and malnutrition.

A total of 112 animals were rescued from the home. Right now, the animals are all at MADACC, but many will go to special rescue groups or other animal shelters.

“Life is about relationships, so, I’ve been doing this for nearly 20 years now and I built that network, so we are in a good position to get these animals rescued and where they belong,” said Sparapani.

Sparapani said the man who was hoarding the animals was selling them for profit.

MADACC said they hope to have some of the dogs and cats ready for adoption as soon as next week.

However, the organization greatly needs dry and wet dog food and monetary donations for the animals’ medical treatment.
