MILWAUKEE — A 30-minute show that retells a young girl’s magical Christmas Eve journey will premier at 12 cities across the U.S. this holiday season, including Milwaukee.
"The Immersive Nutcracker, A Winter Miracle" will run between Dec. 1-31, with the exception of a few days, at the Wisconsin Center.
Developed by the same creators who put on the immersive Van Gogh exhibition, "The Immersive Nutcracker" is a rendition of the timeless classic, E.T.A. Hoffman's 1816 fairy tale, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King." The show is set to the sweeping music of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and encompasses 500,000 cubic feat of projects composed over one million frames of video, becoming a grand immersive display. It features scenes set to classical scores like "The March of the Toys" and "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy."
Families will be able to watch the story come to life, with Marie and her beloved nutcracker that comes to life to battle the Mouse King.
“Like so many others, I have grown up with the tradition of enjoying the Nutcracker story,” said Lighthouse Immersive Producer Svetlana Dvoretsky. “This production does not replace any of those classics, but it provides a family-friendly experience that pays homage to the story’s ballet roots.”
Lighthouse Immersive is producing the show in partnership with Storywall Entertainment, and it's presented by Paquin Entertainment Group and Wisconsin Center District.
World-renowned ballet dancers Denis Rodkin and Eleonora Sevenard will perform during the show amid the animations developed by Elizabeth Pivovar. Alexander Marinosyan will play young Marie and her brother Fritz.
