MADISON, Wis. — With temperatures dropping quickly into the low 30’s, it was only a matter of time until most of Wisconsin saw its first snowstorm of the season.

What You Need To Know

  • The National Weather Service predicts parts of Wisconsin will get 1-3 inches of snow this week, with even more accumulation possible toward the lakeshore

  • That means for many, it's time to break out the snow blower

  • If you haven't had time to bring your snowblower in for maintenance, scroll down for some tips

Projections show that Madison and Milwaukee could get 1-3 inches of snow on Tuesday.

With winter arriving that means it is time to break out the snowblowers but after having them sit for an entire year without being turned on, an important question to ask is ‘does my snowblower work?’

Ed Prochaska, owner of Prairie Power Center said if you were to drop your snowblower off on Monday November 14th, it would take at least two weeks to get it back to you because of how many his shop already has to fix.

“Don’t wait until there's a foot of snow in front of your garage and then, my god it doesn't start,” said Prochaska.

If you haven't had time to bring your snowblower in for maintenance, here are some basic tips on how to prepare your snowblower for the winter months from home:

  • Change the oil. This should be done at the end and the beginning of each season.

  • Empty out the old fuel from the previous season and fill it up with brand new stabilized fuel.

  • Make sure the tires have air.

There are many other repairs that could need to be done to your snowblower and if you are not well educated on what to look for, it would be wise to load the snowblower up and take it down to the repair shop.

“Today we could already see an uptick because they were talking about snow yesterday and today in the forecast so it's getting a little busier,” said Prochaska.
