GREEN BAY, Wis. — I’m not saying the Green Bay Packers are going to go on a magical ride to the Super Bowl. All I know is that early in the fourth quarter Sunday at Lambeau Field, when they trailed 28-14 and were staring at 3-7, their season looked dead.

By rallying to beat the Dallas Cowboys 31-28 in overtime, the Packers did more than end their five-game losing streak. They saved their season, at least for the moment.

The Packers defense got the stops they needed. Christian Watson caught three touchdowns in his coming out party. Yes, there’s still work to do. At least the Packers have given themselves a chance to fight another day.

The fact that the victory came at the expense of former Packers coach Mike McCarthy is merely a footnote. The Packers just needed a win. It wouldn’t have mattered who it was against.

We won’t have to wait long to see if the win will bring any long-term boost. On Thursday night, the tough Tennessee Titans will be at Lambeau.

At least the game will still mean something.
