MILWAUKEE — As economic issues tied to inflation and interest rates continue to weigh heavy on the nation's economy, charitable groups in Wisconsin worry about the impact ahead of what's often the most charitable time of year through the holiday season.

"The reality is that we all know inflation is real and we're all feeling the pinch," Michele Harris, president and CEO of Goodwill of South-Central Wisconsin, told Spectrum News 1. "Even here at Goodwill, the costs are rising for us for our programs and services and all of our operations, so it's a really tough time right now."

In spite of the economic uncertainty of where donation levels could land into 2023, Harris said Wisconsinites finding other ways to give of themselves can help a lot of charitable causes make it through a more meager holiday season.

"We're really encouraged by opportunities people have to still give, whether it's through [items donated] to Goodwill or their time," Harris added. "A lot of charities are really appreciating the time that's spent right now just to be helpful in the community."
