GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers will throw it back to the 50s this Sunday with their Classic Uniforms, as they matchup against the New York Jets in Lambeau.
In a wash of green, with gold numbers and stripes, the uniform is inspired by those from 1950 to 1953. Those years were only the second time the team wore green and gold in its history.
Although there wasn’t notable success on the field, off the field, it was rather eventful. The decade began with the departure of Curly Lambeau, the team’s founder. It ended with the arrival of Vince Lombardi.
At the time, the NFL was booming, gaining nationwide interest. With the stock sale, the Packers organization laid the groundwork for the construction of Lambeau Field and for the future of the team.
This uniform pays homage to all of that.
Fans can get their hands on a variety of items, such as shirts, jerseys, sweatshirts, caps and more, from the 50s Classic Collection in the Packers Pro Shop.
The Packers play against the Jets on Sunday, Oct. 16 at noon.
