MILWAUKE — Teams with Wisconsin Public Power, Inc. (WPPI) are headed to Florida to help with recovery efforts from Hurricane Ian.
Dozens of lineworkers from municipally owned utilities across Wisconsin are answering the call to help. Workers from 22 Wisconsin communities will help with recovery work.
Municipal Electric Utilities of Wisconsin (MEUW) is planning to send at least 41 electric lineworkers, along with a fleet of bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other equipment. They will travel down to New Smyrna Beach, just south of Daytona Beach.
The teams will leave Thursday morning and are currently set to be in Florida for up to two weeks, pending damage.
"It is very refreshing to know we have all these linemen and members that are willing to go down and help," MEUW Manager of Safety Services Michael Czuprynko said. "These guys are leaving their families for, you know, weeks to possibly a month on end."
