MILWAUKEE — Even though the Nov. 2022 election is more than a month away, it’s not too early to register to vote.

Tuesday, Sept. 20 marks National Voter Registration Day. It’s a day filled with events around the country that give people more information on voter registration and get them to register to vote.

As many as one in four eligible Americans are not registered to vote, according to U.S. Census Bureau data from 2020.

And National Voter Registration Day aims to change that.

In Milwaukee, that means a block party sponsored by the Milwaukee Bucks in the Deer District.

From 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Wisconsinites can enjoy music, games, food and drink around the plaza, complete with voter registration information. You’ll be able to register, ask questions and get some cool swag.

The nonpartisan event is being hosted by the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin and Campus Vote Project, two groups dedicated to reducing barriers to voting.

But that’s not all. The League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County have a schedule chock-full of registration events around the city.

Each event will be connected with a voter parade led by “VoteMobile,” a mobile voting center.

On Tuesday, the group will form several long voter parades consisting of floats and decorated cars that will wind through Milwaukee. Cars from all over Wisconsin will converge in Washington Park to be decorated and lined up for the route.

At 12 p.m. the parade will depart from the park to visit voter registration stations across the city, from Red Arrow Park all the way to Sherman Phoenix. The entire event will be livestreamed.

Wisconsinites can register to vote in person up until election day on Nov. 8, 2022. Voters who wish to register online must do so by Oct. 19, 2022.
