MILWAUKEE — A local business group is exploring the idea of pedestrianizing Milwaukee’s Brady Street after a fatal car crash occurred on Sunday, Sept. 11.
The Brady Street Business Improvement District on Wednesday voted to conduct a study on the idea of closing the street to traffic and increase pedestrian safety.
“The BID board believes it's time to take a look at our unique neighborhood that happens to be one of the most popular entertainment districts but set in a challenging, narrow street,” BID executive director Rachel Taylor wrote.
Taylor said the study has support from Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Rep. Jonathan Brostoff (D-Milwaukee).
The study will review all aspects of traffic impact and provide a variety of options, according to Brady Street BID.
Besides the deadly hit-and-run, four people were also shot and injured early Wednesday a block north of Brady Street.
“The Brady [Street] BID would like to thank Mayor Johnson, the Department of Public Works interim commissioner Jerrel Kruschke and Rep. Brostoff for their support in finding ways to create a better, and safer, Brady Street,” Taylor wrote.
