RACINE, Wis. — Heavy rains across much of southern Wisconsin over the past couple of days had emergency response crews at the ready.

"We monitored the best we could and passed along information to municipalities in our area and other constituents," Jay Kerner, the Racine County emergency management director, said. "Throughout Sunday, of course, the heavy rainfall started and it resulted in an Areal Flood Warning as well as a Flash Flood Warning which impacted many of our municipalities in Racine County."

Kerner said that while plenty of homeowners were dealing with flooded basements and other issues, communities county-wide seemed to be in pretty good shape by Monday afternoon. He said that is in part thanks to Friday's early warnings from the National Weather Service about the threat of storms.

"As of late this morning, we had no reports of any other major impacts," Kerner added. "We've done a lot of mitigation over the last couple of years which really has allowed for that..."
