DOOR COUNTY, Wis. — A Wisconsin woman is releasing a book called "The Power of Flowers" that is filled with her art.

It’s an exciting time for her but it was an incredible journey to get to this point.

You can almost always find Vicki Rawlins in her backyard along the shores of Lake Michigan foraging for her next project. It’s a peaceful place for her to explore and find pieces of nature that speak to her, asking to be created with. Her flower art is a sustainable type of art.

She is able to take from Mother Nature, create, and put it all back in a matter of hours. For her, the connection to nature is soothing and a huge part of the creative process.

“I definitely just feel present. I’m not thinking about anything,” Rawlins said. “I’m out in nature, there is nothing better than that. I’m not thinking about what I am going to do next or what I did yesterday.”

When it comes to making a new flower art creation, first comes the foraging, which could take minutes to hours to collect all that is needed or anything that is inspiring. After the foraging, Rawlins takes to her creative cottage on her property to begin a work of art.

“So you just have to kind of work fast and not think and be in your flow, and I love that about it,” Rawlins said.

Rawlins has loved art since she was a kid and has been painting for many years. It was about a decade ago when she got sick and her whole body was under attack. She had pain in her body, and even at times, issues with walking. However, this form of flower art brought her back to memories of her childhood and was the first thing to get her back outdoors and moving again.

Rawlins said it really helped kick-start her healing process and turned into a form of therapy for her.

“It really saved me at that time. It really did. And then I just got addicted to it, obsessed with it,” Rawlins said.

For her, it was an obsession that just so happened to take social media by storm. She began posting on her shop, “Sister Golden” Instagram, and realized she may have something popular going.

It was what allowed her to write and share her in her book, ‘The Power of Flowers’.

Her daughter Brooke Rawlins owns the shop with her and had a big hand in creating posts for her artwork and bringing it to where it is now. She said she’s proud of her mom and her accomplishments.

“It’s been cool to just sort of see her full bloom into this new sort of art form and just really see where she has taken it,” Daughter, Brooke Rawlins said.

For Rawlins, it’s been a journey unlike anything she could have imagined. She’s been able to create and share her art with the world.

It’s been a dream of hers that’s become a reality thanks to going outside one day and picking up a few leaves off the ground..
