EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — As much of the country continues to deal with the fallout from Friday's Supreme Court decision which overturned Roe v. Wade, doctors in Wisconsin said they, too, are dealing with unclear or unintended consequences of any sweeping broad stroke decisions.

"People don't realize that there are a large number of people who may need to want to end their pregnancies that have desired pregnancies," Dr. Jordan Crow, an OB-GYN at OakLeaf Clinics in Eau Claire, Wis. said. "I think people tend to categorize people seeking abortions into preconceived notions about who they are and why they need an abortion, but it's astounding the number of people who want to be pregnant but due to their current medical issue or their abnormal pregnancy that staying pregnant not only puts them in danger, it also means their ability to have a normal, healthy pregnancy in the future is also in danger."

While Wisconsin has a law banning abortion on the books from 1849, its one exclusion tied to protecting a mother's life may be too broad for doctors to safely determine what it means.

"When is the life of a mother truly in danger?" Dr. Crow added. "Does it have to be imminent death? Does it have to be kind of in danger? Does it have to be very in danger and who's going to decide?"
