OCONOMOWOC, Wis.— The Senior Cohort Group of Oconomowoc, the Oconomowoc Police Department and the mayor’s office teamed up for the city’s first Senior Safety Day.

Seniors toured the public safety building to learn more about the police department’s operations.

They also had the opportunity to pick up information about resources in the city.

Carol Nurenberger said she has lived in Oconomowoc for more the two decades.

She came to the event to learn more about how to protect herself from scams and to see the new police station.

"We did talk to one of the officers about a problem we were having in our neighborhood and he seemed very interested so I’m very impressed,” said Nurenberger, "I got a lot of information about scams, about people using our local phone numbers to call you, thinking that you are getting a local call. I haven't looked at most of it yet but I'm going to."

Sarah Williams-Berg is also a member of the Senior Cohort Group of Oconomowoc.

She said they wanted to create a channel of communication to the generation that helped build Oconomowoc into what it is today.

“We’re passionate as a group because we often feel that seniors are forgotten and not listened to and this is our opportunity to bring all of their knowledge and experience and be valued and appreciated,” said Williams-Berg

The Senior Cohort group also encouraged the elderly to fill out a survey about their concerns.

The goal is to have the city act on as many of those concerns as possible.
