MILWAUKEE — Our latest Everyday Hero is Dr. Jennifer Potts.

She's a veteran from Milwaukee who has found a way to share an unlikely passion with many students. It’s turned into a great outlet and a source of inspiration.

Picking out a nail color can be a tough decision. But what about when it comes to choosing a career? For one army veteran, she was able to do just that.

She owns Center Street Nail Tech Academy and is teaching the next generation how to polish and perfect a manicure and pedicure.

“It feels really good to be able to share this passion and also this knowledge in order to meet individuals where they are. That’s what I really like,” Dr. Potts said.

Dr. Jennifer Potts served in the U.S. Army and has accomplished many feats.

She has a doctorate in business administration, she’s a paralegal and she’s an executive director of a business improvement district.

And lastly, she's the owner of Center Street Nail Tech Academy.

“This is like a day in the life of a real nail tech,” Potts said to her students while teaching them how to use a new beading technique for nails.

Nails are her passion. She said it gives her an outlet and a way to give back to others in the community.

“This is my passion," said Potts. "Looking at the individuals that are there I didn’t see this photo in the nail industry. I love seeing this. I love that these opportunities are available for them that really weren’t available for myself."

For her students, working alongside her is an inspiration.

They said seeing all she has accomplished and the careers she has made for herself is impressive.

“It’s basically like a confirmation for me that I can do it also, because I haven’t always been in the nail industry,” Student, Jaqwayta Carter said.

Potts has found a way to share her passion and connect with others by teaching them life skills and the tools they need to become nail techs themselves.

She hopes they can also make a career out of something they love, just like she did.
