MILWAUKEE— People across the country showed their support Friday for 8-year-old Jackson Sparks who died following injuries sustained during the Waukesha Holiday Parade.A Facebook post went viral asking people to wear baseball jerseys to honor him. Many heeded the call, including schools across the state.

At Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, more than 75% of students donned baseball jerseys Friday as part of "Jerseys for Jackson." The school's baseball team even loaned out jerseys to those who did not have one at home.

Carlos Walta is one of the members of the baseball team who helped with the distribution.

“We had all the members of the baseball team handing out jerseys all over. People texting, 'Can I borrow a jersey?' My entire storage of jerseys is depleted today,” said Walta.

While most students at the school may not have known Sparks personally, they wanted to send a message to his family that they support them.

It hits close to home for senior Madison Vasatko, who is from Waukesha. She said knowing the students from all over the Milwaukee area are sending support means a lot.

“Knowing these kids come from all over the surrounding areas is neat because they are supporting my hometown where I grew up and just seeing people come together is super moving in the hard times,” said Vasatko.

Many other schools across the state also took part in Jerseys for Jackson, with many posting pictures to social media.
