JANESVILLE, Wis. — A Rock County man and his team of scientific researchers have extracted a world’s first — the purest form of cannabidiol (CBD) oil possible.

American Extractions CEO John Goepfert has never shied away from a challenge.  

"So when you grew up in the household of rocket scientist," Goepfert said. "There's nothing that isn't possible. He used to tell us it just depends on how much effort you're willing to put into it."

The scientist famed for creating a safe non-toxic fog used in Hollywood, amusement parks and fire departments across the country, but recently he's turned his attention to a medicinal product: CBD.

In order to do that, Goepfert does not rely on legacy extraction method that use chemistry based practices. He said those can be dangerous.

"That left fingerprints behind from the chemicals that were used, and frequently those chemicals cause cancer," he said.

It also leaves a waxy yellow product.

Rather, to procure his whiskey colored nano-ionized CBD distillate, Goepfert uses 16 million joules of energy injected straight into the hemp — ionizing the molecules.  

"With that charge change, it makes it more available to your body chemistry so little doses of our material, act like larger doses, and last longer," he said.

"I was impressed," Illinois Tech’s Biology, Physics and Biomedical Engineering professor Dr. Joseph Orgell said.

He took the two hour journey to the Janesville lab just to see the syrupy looking solution and study the findings visible on the molecular level.

"It's easy to make up a good sounding story and practice science fiction want john and his team has been able to do a science fact," Dr. Orgell said. "In terms of the CBD extraction, the form of which it comes out to the manufacturing process is very encouraging."

Meanwhile, Goepfert is proud he can create the world's first CBD nano-ionized distillate close to home.

"All of this is done here in Wisconsin, you know, the majority of the help that we're using as Wisconsin grown [...] it's an all Wisconsin product, it's all done naturally," he said.

American Extraction’s CBD distillate is already being used in a clinical trial underway at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. The FDA has approved CBD product for use in at least one seizure-based drug.
