MILWAUKEE — Harris Stavrou, Senior Editor at Greece's SPORT24, said he believes the Bucks are entering the new NBA season as favorites to repeat as title winners.
Stavrou, who was the only member of the Greek media to travel to Wisconsin for last summer's NBA finals, is back in town to cover Tuesday's ring ceremony and season opener against the Nets.
He said, while the Nets and Lakers both will roll out talented teams this season, he thinks Milwaukee is still the team to beat in the NBA.
Stavrou said sports fans in his home country fanatically cheered on the Bucks to their first NBA title last summer.
Stavrou said basketball enthusiasts in his home country, who so closely follow the career of Giannis Antetokounmpo, have all become big fans of the whole Bucks team. He noted that it helps that Giannis' brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, is also a Buck.
This year, the Bucks have also added a third Greek in rookie Giorgos Kalaitzakis.
Stavrou said the one thing that makes it difficult for Greek fans to follow the Bucks is the time difference. Greece is eight hours ahead of the United States.
