MILWAUKEE—  People from all over Wisconsin are looking for ways to give back to Afghan refugees at Fort McCoy. The Islamic Society of Milwaukee found a big way to give back.

The Islamic Society of Milwaukee already donated an entire semi truck full of clothing and other necessities for Afghan refugees at Fort McCoy. They’ve found some of the most important donations are traditional clothing, to help them feel just a little bit closer to home.

Romeena Kureishy is just one of many volunteers packing up donations.

“I can’t even imagine how it would feel to just get up and leave your house and a place you are comfortable with that you know your country and just  get up and go somewhere,” Kureishy said.

“This is a three piece outfit it is a traditional Pakistani outfit that a lot of people in Afghanistan also wear. It has tunic and pants and a scarf,” Kureishy said.

The Islamic Society of Milwaukee is happy to give back and said they know their good deeds mean a whole lot to those currently at Fort McCoy.

“A lot of these women might not be comfortable wearing western clothes just yet. So this will definitely bring them comfort. They know how to wear these clothes and I think it will make life easier for them.” Kureishy said.

The group has another semi truckload awaiting to be filled in the next week or so.
