Hailey Danz grew up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She was super active as a kid, and played multiple sports. When she was 12, she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. After undergoing chemotherapy and multiple surgeries, at age 14, she decided to have her left leg amputated so she could get back to the activities she loved.

The paratriathlon was held Saturday in Tokyo. Team USA said Danz led for most of the race, until her teammate Allysa Seely took over.

In the paratriathlon, the United States walked away with two of the three medals: Seely won gold, and Danz won silver.

Danz competed in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio, where she also brought home silver.
