OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. — With the news of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s Ambassador to Luxembourg nomination, a new level of attention is being drawn to the small country of Luxembourg.

The small nation, which has around the same population as the city of Milwaukee, is sandwiched between France, Germany, and Belgium. Despite its small size, there are a large number of people in Wisconsin with Luxembourg roots.

The Luxembourg American Cultural Center in Belgium, Wis. knows all about it. The center, located 35 miles north of Milwaukee, features a museum and heritage research center. Members said they hope that if Barrett is confirmed into the role, he will take advantage of Wisconsin’s connections within the country.

Cultural Center Director, Patricia Lutz, said she would be happy to show him around.

“He [Barrett] has a lot of resources here. He could take a walk around the neighborhood and probably run into somebody who could tell him a lot about Luxembourg-American dependents and the country itself,” said Lutz.

A few weeks ago, Mayor Barrett paid a visit to their Luxembourg Fest. The cultural center said at the time of his visit, they were unaware that he was up to the Ambassador position.
