HUBERTIS, Wis. — A Girl Scout from southeastern Wisconsin is being featured as an Everyday Hero for her recent project that also won her a Gold Award.

Kailey Ambrose has been a Girl Scout for around 10 years now. She enjoys time with her family, playing the piano, and giving back to the community. Kailey is living with autism, but that hasn’t stoped her from being an award-winning Girl Scout.

The Gold Award is the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts of the USA, per scoutsociety.org. Just 5.4% of eligible Girl Scouts earn the honor.

This is something her mom, Bethann, is extremely proud of.

“It’s actually been exciting to see a child with a disability to do something really neat for the community,” Bethann said.

Kailey and her mom, along with her project sponsor, Julie Quigley, put together sensory backpacks for first responders and many others to use in case of an emergency.

“Some of the things in here are fidgets, one of the things is putty that they can work with,” Quigley said.

The bags are filled with items known to help calm or sooth someone living with special needs during a hectic time. There are items like noise canceling headphones, fidgets, weighted pads, sensory bottles, books and much more. For Kailey and her family, it was a simple idea that they know will impact many others in Wisconsin.

“For me it teaches Kailey that she can do anything she puts her mind to," Bethann said. "For kids with disabilities that's a big thing. So if she can do it, others can too."

Through this project, Kailey has been able to make an impact by donating 12 sensory bags to first responders and teachers to be able to use in case of an emergency. Their hope is to better educate other so they know what to do in those types of situations to help create the best outcome for everyone.

It’s been a proud moment not only for herself, but also her family.
