Milwaukee, Wis. — The Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) will not be offering special transportation to summer events like Summerfest and the Wisconsin State Fair this summer, according to an MCTS press release.

Though visitors will still be able to ride the regularly scheduled buses in Milwaukee during these events, specialized routes for these events will not be available due to a shortage of bus drivers.

“Normally, in addition to its fixed network that consists of dozens of bus routes across Milwaukee County, MCTS would also run seasonal shuttles and ‘Freeway Flyers’ that transport passengers between Park and Ride lots and special events,” the press release said.

Despite implementing increased recruiting efforts, MCTS is understaffed and unable to add routes to its existing route sets, the release said.

“MCTS has welcomed more than 125 new bus drivers in the last year but is still short 60 positions, inching towards its lowest count in five years,” the press release said.
