MILWAUKEE— Roughly four days after a ransomware hack shut down the Colonial Pipeline, leading to gas shortages this week at stations throughout North Carolina and Florida, there's relief for drivers in other parts of the country.
"Wisconsin is not in any way connected to the Colonial Pipeline, so there's really no danger of any supply chain disrpution here in our state," Nick Jarmusz, director of public affairs for AAA, The Auto Club Group, told Spectrum News 1 Tuesday.
The FBI continues to investigate the hack as the Colonial Pipeline— which runs from Texas to New York— works to restore operations as quickly as possible.
"There's no risk of shortages or stations running out of gas here in Wisconsin," Jarmusz added, "and we would certainly caution people against any sort of panic buying."
Tuesday night, AAA reported that the nationwide average for regular unleaded is now $2.985/gallon, higher than the price in Wisconsin of $2.842/gallon.
