MILWAUKEE — For anyone who believes in the old expression that 'music is food for the soul,' after roughly 14 months without live shows, Summerfest organizers on Thursday gave everyone a massive menu to the equivalent of a seven-course meal.

"It's a really impressive lineup, especially in a pandemic," Piet Levy, said Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's music and entertainment reporter. "The live music industry came to a screeching halt in March, 2020, many artists are staying off the road or pushing off to next year [and] many festivals are still canceling this year, including some in Milwaukee."

Set for three weekends in September, Levy said Summerfest could mark one of if not the first largers music festival many of these bands have played in since before the start of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"The live music industry has been very bullish about trying to have concerts come back in a big way, probably in late Summer, probably with outdoor events first for the most part," Levy said, "and festivals are a big part of that. That's why we're seeing Summerfest in September to give more time to the vaccine rollout, and it's one of many major festivals that are going to be coming out in September..."
