MILWAUKEE — A place for various ages, income levels, and ethnicities to unite under one roof. 

Mount Mary University’s campus will be home to a new intergenerational housing complex in the fall of 2021.  

The facility will host private residence for retired School Sisters of Notre Dame, founders of the all-female college. It also offers housing for seniors and single moms pursuing undergraduate degrees at Mount Mary, along with their children.

The complex is called Trinity Woods. The name pays homage to Mount Mary’s surrounding nature, as well as the projects three sponsoring entities: Mount Mary, the School Sisters, and Milwaukee Catholic Homes.

In addition, Trinity Woods will feature early childhood development facilities for up to 100 children.

All buildings will be connected by a Town Center. Spaces for dining, worship, and socialization are intertwined within.

Pat Caruso is preparing to move in this October. This will be Pat’s sixteenth move.

“There’s so much offered here that I just couldn’t pass it up, no matter how hesitant I might be at times,” Pat said. “Elimination more things from my home, that’s all a little scary, but it’s worth it.”

Pat now lives in Bay View with her daughter Kim.  Pat will occupy one of the senior apartments this fall. Kim knows the campus well, as she’s a Mount Mary graduate.  She reflects on the college’s diversity then and now.

“I was in class at 20 years old with someone my mom’s age now, or with a mother just finishing raising her kids and she’s going back to school,” Kim said.

Keri Alioto is in charge of student affairs for Mount Mary. She oversees Trinity Woods and recalls one single mother’s story.

“She wants her children to see their mom working hard,” Keri said. “To see that the resources that come with Trinity Woods allow her to be successful and will allow her children to be successful.”
