GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers can add a famous fan to their list of dedicated Cheeseheads: President Joe Biden.

Back in Jan. 2011, Biden, who was Vice President at the time, told WTMJ radio that a deep love for the Green and Gold was instilled in him at a young age.

Biden attended a Catholic boys school in Delaware, run by Norbertines, an order of priests whose abbey was a long way from the coast; they hailed from DePere.

"Every Sunday the Packers won, the headmaster, Father Justin E. Diny, would get on PA system, literally, and say, 'Gentlemen no last period today.' He made every one of us Packers fans, so I have a sentimental place [for the team]," Biden told WTMJ radio.

It was easy to be a Packers fan in those days. Bart Starr and Paul Hornung were leading the team to a slew of victories.

And while plenty of big names are carrying on that legacy today, as the Packers look ahead to a chance at another Super Bowl, Biden's got one more reason to stay loyal to his favorite football team.

"Besides, I'm fearful I'll go to hell if I don't root for the Packers; Father Diny may come back," he told John Mercure of WTMJ radio. "I can't go against Father Diny. He'll come out of his grave if he knew I was rooting for anybody else."
