WAUKESHA, Wis. — After a year filled with event cancellations, some outdoor winter festivals in Wisconsin are making a return starting this month.

Organizers of several festivals have been kept busy making adjustments in the era of COVID-19.

One such festival is Waukesha JanBoree, which kicks off Friday. The ten-day event is being shifted so that many activities will take place on Zoom. Other outdoor in-person events are still set to take place with social distancing in effect.

It means people will have to pre-register for any activities in order to avoid lines.

“Almost all events require registration, just so we can keep numbers down, not have people congregating, not being sure if they can do the activity or not,” says Joanna Adamicki, who serves as the Special Events Coordinator for the City of Waukesha. “So, with the registration, this guarantees everybody a spot and they will be able to take part in the activity.”

Beloit’s Winterfest will also be taking place later this month. With the exception of a few events, almost everything is being moved to a virtual platform.
