MILWAUKEE —  In Wisconsin's 5th congressional district, which makes up much of Milwaukee's western and northern suburbs while extending almost out to Dane County, longtime Wisconsin State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald looks to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R) while defeating Democratic contender Tom Palzewicz.

"What we've seen over the last four or five months, depending on your perspective, is that Covid and everything related to it... [is] the issue that people are talking about right now ," State Sen. Fitzgerald recently told Spectrum News 1 when asked about the biggest issue facing his potential constituents. "A second issue when I talk to people? The national debt..."

In addition to serving in Madison, Fitzgerald spent 27 years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He and his wife Lisa have three sons and live on a horse farm in Clyman, Wisconsin.

Spectrum News 1 caught up with both candidates last week. You can watch the full conversation between Jason Fechner and State Sen. Fitzgerald above.
