Holmen, Wis. — Staff at the Holmen School District is busy making sure students don’t go hungry while learning virtually.

Nutrition Supervisor Michael Gasper said Holmen is the only district in La Crosse County that is not only providing students with free meals, but delivering them to their doorsteps.

“This keeps them from having to stop learning virtually, come to school and grab their food and then go back,” Gasper said. “Now if they’re learning virtually when the food is delivered, they just have to answer the door and then go back to the computer, so it keeps the kids on task as well.”

Staff in the nutrition and transportation areas package and deliver the meals to children five days per week. They deliver upwards of 3,000 meals per day.

“To have the kids still feel that they’re part of the school district,” said Becky Dehli, who’s a mom of three. “Our lunch ladies are wonderful and the kids really enjoy them, so knowing they get to see them everyday drop off their lunches is a really great thing for our family.”

Any student 18 years old, or younger can receive the meals. The deliveries include anyone within the school district. To sign up for delivery, click here
