MILWAUKEE (SPECTRUM NEWS) — The unofficial fall season is underway in Wisconsin, meaning fall colors are right around the corner.
Spectrum News 1’s meteorologists compiled a map that shows the typical peak of fall foliage times in Wisconsin and across the country. Northern Wisconsin usually sees the colors change in late September to early October, where southern Wisconsin is usually mid-to-late October.
Additionally, Travel Wisconsin’s Fall Color Report takes a deep dive into when colored leaves could be popping up around the Badger state. The map actively updates the 2020 predictions across the 72 counties from 100 fall color reporters.
Per the map, parts of northern Wisconsin are starting to see some fall colors; Some of Eau Claire County is at 10% peak and is expected to fully peak in the third week of October. Marinette County and Bayfield County are also at 10% peaks, with the colors fully changing around the same time in October.
In Central Wisconsin, Menominee, Marquette, and Sheboygan counties are at 5% peaks. They are also anticipated to reach full peaks in mid-October.
Milwaukee, Madison, and Lake Geneva are still reporting 0%.
Fall colors reached their peaks across the entire state by the last week of October in 2019, according to the National Weather Service.
