WISCONSIN (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- Wisconsin saw a total of 1,498 new confirmed cases of coronavirus today, Sept. 4, setting a new record high for the state.
However, the Wisconsin DHS did report that they experienced an issue with reporting. They say that the issue has been resolved, but claim that the high numbers reporter today are directly attributed to that. This was shared after the release of the daily numbers.
Wisconsin has a cumulative total of 79,354 positive coronavirus cases thus far. 70,229 people have recovered, coming in at an 88.5 percent recovery rate. 1.5 percent of people who have contracted coronavirus have died. Wisconsin has lost 1,153 lives to the pandemic. Seven new deaths were reported today.
5,998 people in Wisconsin have been hospitalized due to coronavirus, a total of 7.6 percent.
Today's positivity rate sits at 12.8 percent, bringing the positivity rate for the past seven days up to 9.1 percent.
10,204 people tested negative today.
State health officials are warning people to use caution heading into the holiday weekend, urging people to avoid large gatherings. Over 20 percent of confirmed cases associated with group gatherings, according to DHS Wisconsin.
“As we celebrate Labor Day, we need to remember that COVID-19 spreads through the air,” says Governor Tony Evers. “So try celebrating with safe activities like a family BBQ or a hike at one of Wisconsin’s beautiful state parks. When you are with someone outside of your household, remember that wearing a face covering protects both you and them.”
