MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS)— On the final night of the Democratic National Convention protesters took to the streets in hopes their message would still be heard even if only on a virtual platform.
Thursday, the fourth and final night of the virtual DNC, is the night the largest number of people attended the event in person.
The Coalition to March on the DNC has been organizing a protest for this specific night for the past year and a half.
The amount of turn out was something organizers say they were satisfied with. Hundreds filled the streets of downtown Milwaukee intending to use the DNC as their platform to have their voices heard.
“We have eyes on us, but we have more eyes on us now so that’s really important,” one protestor says while walking with her daughter.
Organizer Ryan Hamman says all the work put into this march was worth it to see the sheer number of people all in one place for the same cause.
“I am just really happy we are going to be able to give them this platform and we are going to be walking in the streets of Milwaukee demanding that the police stop killing people,” Hamman says.
Families of those who lost their loved ones at the hands of police officers spoke at Red Arrow Park, in Milwaukee, telling their stories for all to hear before leading the march.
Leaders held a sign at the very front of the group reading: “WE CAN'T BREATHE.”
Their goal is to send a direct message to those who have the power to make a change.
“Hearing from the people directly, that makes them accountable when people show up like this,” a protester says as he stood and watched the group make its way to MPD district one.
