OSHKOSH, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) — A group of protesters took to the streets of Oshkosh as President Donald Trump made his way to town Monday.
There were around 100 protesters in Oshkosh for one thing; to have their voices heard. The group is called the Coalition to March on the DNC. They have plans to be present the entire week of the convention here in Wisconsin. Many gathered on what can be seen as an elevated platform on the first day of the DNC to get their message across as the President visited Wisconsin.
“We want to make sure he is moving out and that he knows this is our town,” protester Cierra Schrigt said.
Schrigt is from Oshkosh and says once she heard the president was coming to town she knew she wanted to let him know he wasn’t welcome in her hometown.
“He’s not welcome here. I don’t want him here, we don’t want him here and we immediately organized a protest to let him know we don’t want him here,” Schrigt said.
The crowd of protesters made their way through nearby neighborhoods in Oshkosh on their way to the airport where the President spoke. They held signs and were chanting along the way in hopes the President and his supporters would hear them.
“We cannot go to sleep, we have to stay in the streets,” a protester said over a megaphone to the crowd. “ If we want our voices heard then we have to make them be heard.”
It was a message of equality, unity, and an urge for everyone to go out and vote in the upcoming election.
“We need to get the American people involved in this election. I have no doubt about the decency of the American people and what is in office right now does not reflect that,” protester Gale Nelson said.
The Coalition to March on the DNC group will be active the entire week with a big march expected on Thursday.
