MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS)— Milwaukee Police Chief Michael Brunson makes his first move as chief. He says he’s taking action the community wants to see.

In his first week as Chief, Michael Brunson hopes to connect deeper with the Milwaukee community.

“What this project does is it fosters community engagement, community collaboration and the first part of it will be speak-outs that the community will be involved in,” Milwaukee Police Chief, Michael Brunson said.

Brunson says this idea for the Rewaukee Project came from members of the community and its been in the works for the past six months. His goal is to build a better working relationship with neighborhoods and work on community policing.

“In his first week as Chief he wants to listen to our residents and I guarantee you Chief, our residents will speak. Because there is a lot of unhappiness, there is a lot of turmoil, there is a lot of work that has to be done in our community to build trust,” Mayor Tom Barrett said.

Here’s how it works, the Milwaukee Police Department has provided a new email for citizens to voice their concerns. It’s talktompd@milwaukee.gov

You can email your issues to that email address and members of MPD will gather the information and schedule what they are calling “speak out sessions” where members of the department and the community will go over these emails together.

“The ultimate goals to engage with the community to get that our feedback from the community, to find out because right now with everything that is going on right now in this country, law enforcement is looked at in a certain way in some segments. What we want to do is find out what the broad communities thoughts are, what do they think? what issues do they have,” Brunson said.

The email is now live for members of the community to reach out.
