MILWAUKEE, Wisc., (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- The DNC may be primarily virtual, but when it comes to security, law enforcement and public safety are still taking precautions onsite in Milwaukee. 

Security restrictions and joint transportation plans were announced Wednesday, less than a week before the DNC kicks off on Monday, Aug. 17. 

The following streets will be closed beginning Saturday Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. through midday Friday Aug. 21:

  • Wells St., between N. 6th St. & Vel R. Phillips Ave (N. 4th St.)
  • Wisconsin Ave., between N. 6th St. & Vel R. Phillips Ave (N. 4th St.)
  • 6th St., between W. Michigan St. & W. Kilbourn St.
  • 5th St., between W. Michigan St. & W. Kilbourn St.
  • 4th St., between W. Michigan St. & W. Kilbourn St.
  • Michigan St., between Vel R. Phillips Ave (N. 4th St.) & N. 5th St.

Kilbourn Tunnel extit 72C and the entrance ramp to N I-42 will be closed Friday, Aug. 18 - Friday Aug. 21. 

Beginning Friday, plan for the Kilbourn Tunnel to be closed from Friday 8/14 through Friday 8/21

Interstate highways and espressways will not be closed during the DNC. 

A map highlighting street closures for the convention is now available on the U.S. Secret Service website. 

There will be commercial vehicle restrictions enforced throughout the area. 

There are temporary flight restrictions, but not water restrictions in place for Milwaukee. 

You can only enter the Wisconsin Center for the convention if you have a ticket or credentials to be admitted. Expect to go through a security screening process prior to being allowed entrance. 

There is a list of prohibited items, which can be accessed, here. They will be confiscated at security and not returned to the owner. Notable things to leave at home include backpacks, selfie sticks and signs exceeding size limitations. Animals other than service or guide animals are not allowed to enter the Wisconsin Center. No drones are allowed from Aug. 17 through the end of the convention.
