WISCONSIN (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- Another 3.8 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, bringing the total now to more than 30 million over the past six weeks. The number of people filing for unemployment in Wisconsin inching closer to half a million this week. There is some hope ahead for those looking for jobs as community leaders are planning a virtual job fair.

The multi-county event will reach people in Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, Racine, Kenosha, and Walworth County.

Laura Catherman with the Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington Workforce Development Board says the event was actually in the works before the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We had been looking at piloting a virtual event for our spring job fair this year, we’ve seen a rise in virtual events across the country so we wanted to pilot that here in Wisconsin, so we actually had that in the works prior to this pandemic, so we were fortunate that we had vetted the vendors that were out there and we had brought some community partners together on this journey with us,” says Catherman.

There will be over 40 virtual booths… with over 800 job seekers already pre-registered for the event. There will be a virtual lobby and hall where people can look at different company booths and engage with representatives. There are also opportunities for one on one interviews, so organizers are urging people to have their resumes handy and dress to impress.

There is no cost for anyone who wants to attend the virtual job fair, you just need a name and email to sign up and can attend the event from a computer or smartphone. It will take place on May 7th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
