MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) - The biggest party of the summer will now become the biggest party in September after Milwaukee World Festival, Inc., the organizers of Summerfest, announced Monday that the "Big Gig" along Lake Michigan's being postponed due to the spread of COVID-19.
"The music industry has been profoundly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and most live events scheduled for early summer have been cancelled," Don Smiley, President and Chief Executive Officer of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc., said in a statement. "In the interest of safety and in cooperation with artists, Summerfest 2020 will move to new dates: September 3-5, 10-12 and 17–19, 2020. The new dates provide the best possible option to deliver the Summerfest experience our fans and sponsors have grown to love; we are doing everything possible to continue a tradition which spans five decades."
The statement went on to say that details on rescheduled performances and potentially new headliners would be coming soon.
As for those who'd bought tickets, Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. said that all tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates and that anyone with questions should email info@summerfest.com.
"All of us at Summerfest look forward to seeing you in September," Smiley's statement went on to read. "Until then, I hope you can take some time to listen to your favorite artists and enjoy the magic of music. Please take care of yourself and one another."
