MADISON, Wis (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- On Wednesday, several dozen Breast Cancer advocates and survivors will head to Wisconsin's State Capitol to talk with lawmakers about doing more to fight the deadly disease.
Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition President, Ann Martel, says along with prevention and early detection, her organization hopes they can encourage lawmakers to expand state funding for Wisconsin’s Well Women program. Martel says money was recently cut from the program that helps at-risk women receive mammograms.
"Women of color and women who are underserved have access to resources that they don’t have right now, or don’t know that they have right now, so that’s a really critical mission of Wednesday also," Martel said.
The group also plans to ask elected leaders to put pressure on insurance companies to provide additional dense breast tissue testing.
