NEW GLARUS, Wis, (SPECTRUM NEWS) - Polka Fest is in full swing this weekend in downtown New Glarus. While the event is a chance for people to let loose and enjoy the sounds of the music, it also serves another important purpose. Polka is rich in tradition, and while the music could once be heard on the radio and in dance halls all across the state, its popularity isn’t what it once was. It is the reason that festivals like Polka Fest play an important role.

Craig Ebel plays with the David Austin Band and hosts a nationally syndicated polka radio show. He traveled from Minnesota to perform at the festival. He says having a chance to share the music with die-hard fans is fun, but it is just as exciting to introduce new people to the music.

“They are just all excited, they are like we never knew, this is great! Where do you guys play? Do you have any CDs out, where can we hear you play?” Ebel says

Polka Fest in New Glarus continues through Saturday.
