(OAK CREEK, WI) -- The first time that many across Wisconsin heard the name Matthew Rittner was in connection with the tragic way that he died.
However, as thousands packed Oak Creek Assembly of God church Wednesday, those who knew Officer Rittner best were able to remember him for the remarkable way that he lived.
For nearly two hours, speakers at Officer Rittner’s funeral shared stories about how he bravely served his country as a Marine and as a police officer.
His brother-in-law spoke about his wonderful connection with his family, and his partner on the Milwaukee Police Department spoke about his dedication to the job.
“Matt was an absolutely incredible friend, a great man, and a great partner, son, you will be forever missed.” Officer Matt Murray told the crowd.
With reflections on his time as a Marine and officer, the audience was able to clearly see how deeply Rittner cared for serving others and living life to the fullest.
