MADISON (SPECTRUM NEWS) — The Wisconsin Veterans Museum is hard at work on  a new exhibit featuring war correspondence.  On display are more than a dozen nineteenth and early 20th century military war letters.

‘The only way to communicate with your loved ones back home, and it’s a very important thing for service members in the field especially because it’s that link home,’

Wisconsin Veteran’s Museum Director Michael Telzrow said about the art and sheer importance of letter writing.

From the cursive, to the colorful, military members found creative ways to express themselves on the frontlines.

’Some of my favorite ones are the humorous, the cartoon, the cartoon ones I find fascinating, there are some great ones of scenery, it runs the gamut, it really does

The quick doodles to the scenic portraits,” he said.

Surprisingly, some of the letters that have held up the best are ones from the Civil War.

“Oddly enough some of the paper from the civil war is very good quality, so they hold up pretty well with specific care,” Telzrow said.
