(MILWAUKEE, WI) -- Saturday was a rough day for fans of Marquette women's basketball. They were defeated by Notre Dame 87-63. Despite the loss, fans of Wisconsin basketball still had plenty to be proud of. Milwaukee native and Notre Dame player Arike Ogunbowale returned home to The Brew City for the first time in her college playing career to take on the Golden Eagles.
The 2015 Divine Savior Holy Angels High School graduate has had an impressive career since leaving Milwaukee. She helped lead Notre Dame to a 2018 NCAA basketball championship. She has also appeared on the Ellen Show and Dancing with the Stars. Saturday, her family gathered at the Al McGuire Center to watch her play. They say having her back in Milwaukee brings back many memories. Through all her accomplishments, family says they are glad she has stayed true to her roots.
“Things have not changed.” says Arike's mom Yolanda Ogunbowale
While Arike's family was pulling for a Notre Dame win Saturday, they agree they still have great respect for Marquette's team.
"Because we grew up here, we have been here times to watch games before she even made it to high school." says Arike's father Greg Ogunbowale
In addition to family, members of Arike's Divine Savior Holy Angels championship team were also in attendance to cheer her on Saturday.
