Milwaukee Commissioner of Health Kirsten Johnson said cases of monkeypox have leveled off across the city.
“Our number has plateaued, so we haven’t had any new cases in the past couple of weeks,” Johnson said.
Johnson said the monkeypox vaccine, of which the city has administered more than 1,600 doses, and changing and more cautious behavior from the public are likely driving that decline.
Johnson said the vaccine is available to anyone who’s a health care provider treating a monkeypox patient, people who work in labs that handle monkeypox specimens, men who have sex with men, or anyone who identifies as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
